Dr. Dobelman is currently Professor in the Practice in Statistics, and Director of the Professional Master’s Program, in the George R. Brown School of Engineering, Rice University. He earned the BSEE, the Masters of Business & Public Management (MBPM, from the Jesse. H. Jones Graduate School of Administration), and Masters of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics from Rice University, Houston, Texas. The Ph.D. was conducted under James R. Thompson, Edward E. Williams, and Katherine B. Ensor. He has also been an Adjunct Professor in the Cameron School of Business, University of St. Thomas, Houston, TX.

He was a research engineer (ionospheric radio science) in the Space Physics and Astronomy Department at Rice University. After that he was lead engineer and manager for engineering, program management and implementation engineering for terminal Air Traffic Control (ATC) communications, surveillance, and navigation and landing systems for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Facilities & Equipment (F&E) program. He was also a pricing scientist in the Science & Research Department at PROS Revenue Management, Inc.

Member ASA, IEEE, Institute of Navigation (ION), TSPE, NSPE, Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA); Life Member, AGU.

His current research interests are stochastic modeling for markets and finance, simulation-based and quantitative portfolio selectiona and management, deception in patterns of noise, display of quantitative information, and improved communication.
